should he so desire, and enter into contract with the owner or owners or
managers of any of said mines—such additional hours to be computed as
overtime, and to be paid for.

451. Any person, body corporate, agent, manager or employer, who
shall violate any of the provisions of the foregoing section, shall be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be fined not
more than fifty dollars.

452. It shall be the duty of the Mine Inspector to make as to the clay
or fire-clay mines in Allegany or Garrett Counties the examination and
reports required as to coal mines under Section 197 of Article 1 and Sec-
tion 151 of Article 12 of this Act, and to make recommendations to the
State Board of Labor and Statistics as to the legislation requisite to pro-
tect life and health in such clay mines.*

453. All corporations incorporated under the laws of Maryland, here-
after engaged in mining and shipping coal in Allegany County are hereby
required to pay each and all their employees their wages earned in said
employment semi-monthly; that is to say, all wages earned on and before
the 15th of each month shall be paid not later than upon the 25th day of
said month; and all wages earned from the 16th to the end of each month,
shall be paid not later than the tenth day of the succeeding month, unless
said 25th day or 10th day of any month shall fall on Sunday or a legal
holiday, in which case the time for payment shall be extended to the
next day.

454. Any such corporation, wilfully refusing to make said payments
of wages at the times hereinbefore specified, or wilfully withholding said
wages from said employees beyond said times, shall be deemed guilty of a
misdemeanor, and upon indictment and conviction thereof shall be fined
not less than $50 nor more than $300, in the discretion of the court.

tion, person, partnership or association engaged in the business of coal
mining or clay mining in Allegany and Garrett Counties, Maryland. The
