1588 ARTICLE 6.

more than three persons as policemen, who shall hold office for one year
or until his successor is appointed, confirmed and qualified, and whose
duties and compensation shall be such as are prescribed by law and by
ordinance or resolution of the Mayor and Council of Federalsburg from
time to time, and who shall within the limits of said town and beyond
them within one-half mile thereof have all the police powers of constables
of the State of Maryland, and it shall be their duty to enforce the by-
laws and ordinances of the Mayor and Council of Federalsburg and the
laws of the State of Maryland in relation to crimes and misdemeanors
committed within the limits of said town, and the regular policemen be-
fore entering upon the duties of their office shall each take and subscribe
before a Justice of the Peace of Caroline: County an oath to well and
faithfully, without partiality or prejudice, perform the duties of his office
in all things according to the laws of the State and the ordinances of the
Mayor and Council of Federalsburg, and to enforce said laws and said
ordinances to the best of his ability, which oath shall be certified to by
the Justice of the Peace before whom it shall be taken and filed with the
Clerk of Federalsburg, and the policemen so appointed shall give bond
to the Mayor and Council of Federalsburg with surety and in such pen-
alty as shall be prescribed by ordinance, and said bond to be approved
by the Mayor and Council of Federalsburg.

203. Said police officers may be suspended without pay for a period
not exceeding thirty (30) days or reprimanded by the Mayor for neglect,
non-performance of duty or other good cause, and all of said officers shall
be subject to removal as provided by Section 205* of this Article.

1929, ch. 21, sec. 27.

204. The Mayor, or in his absence or disability the President pro
tempore of the Council, may appoint, special policemen with all the
powers of the regular policemen for a term of not exceeding thirty (30)
days whenever the exigency of the occasion requires it, and their duties
and powers shall be the same as those of the regular policemen.

205. The policemen who shall be duly appointed pursuant to the pro-
visions of this Charter shall have the same fees for making arrests for
the infractions of the laws of the State of Maryland and the ordinances
of the Mayor and Council of Federalsburg as are now or may hereafter
be allowed by law to constables in criminal cases.

206. The Mayor may appoint, subject to confirmation by a majority
of the Council, one person who must be: a regular physician and in good
standing as a health officer; one person as building inspector; one person
as town engineer; one person as a street commissioner and one person
