or forfeitures imposed by the ordinances of the town of Luke shall be im-
posed by a justice of the peace of Allegany County, for the election dis-
trict in which said town is located, upon a warrant to be issued, directed
to the bailiff of said town or any policeman thereof.

1922, ch. 73, sec. 6.

434. The Mayor and Commissioners of Luke shall cause to be main-
tained a registration of the legal and qualified voters residing within the
corporate limits of the town of Luke; said registration shall specify the
residence of the voters on each street, lane or alley and such further infor-
mation as the Mayor and Commissioners of Luke may consider necessary
to show their qualifications as such voters, and such registration shall be
essential to the right to vote at any election held under the charter of
Luke; the Mayor and Commissioners of Luke shall annually appoint two
persons being citizens of the town of Luke and qualified voters thereof to
act as officers of said registration and they shall sit for the purpose of
registering voters at the Council Chamber in said town or at such other
places as may be designated by the Mayor and Commissioners on the first
Monday in September, each year. They shall sit not less than nine (9)
hours, and ten days' public notice of the said sitting shall be given prior
thereto by advertisement by way of handbills posted in not less than ten
public places within the corporate limits of the town of Luke. After
causing the registration of the duly qualified voters, they shall return the
said list to the Mayor and Commissioners of Luke. Before the said offi-
cers of registration shall sit for this purpose, they shall go before a justice
of the peace for Allegany County and make oath in due form of law that
they will only permit the registration of such person or persons as are
entitled under the provisions of this Act to be registered as voters of the
town of Luke.

435. The said Mayor and Commissioners of Luke shall appoint every
year at least two days before the day of election, three judges to hold
elections; said judges shall keep the polls open from 9 o'clock in the morn-
ing until 6 o'clock in the afternoon and shall conduct the said election in
the same manner in which the judges of election are now directed to con-
duct elections for State and county officials, as far as may be practicable,
after making oath before some justice of the peace of Allegany County
that they will only permit those to vote whose names appear upon the
registration lists as duly qualified voters, and the said judges shall make
their returns as to the votes cast and persons elected at said election, under
hands and seals, to the Mayor and Commissioners of Luke, and to the
Clerk of the Circuit Court for Allegany County, Maryland.

436. The Mayor and Commissioners shall cause a call for a primary
election to nominate candidates for municipal officers to be issued each
