PRESENT INCUMBENTS.

1918, Home Rule Charter.

203-O. All persons holding positions in the City Service when such
positions are placed under the provisions of this subdivision of this Char-
ter shall be entitled to retain their position until discharged, reduced, pro-
moted or transferred in accordance with the provisions of this subdivision

of this Charter.

POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS AND ASSESSMENTS.

1918, Home Rule Charter.

203P. No person in the Classified City Service shall for any reason
be under any obligation to contribute to any political fund, and no per-
son shall knowingly, directly or indirectly, in person or by letter, request
or solicit the payment of any political assessment, subscription or contri-
bution from any person in the Classified City Service.

203Q. Any violation of any of the provisions of this sub-division of
this Charter relating to the City Service Commission, or any wilful use
of any corrupt means in connection with any examination, appointment,
promotion, reduction, transfer or reinstatement shall be deemed a mis-
demeanor and, upon conviction in a Court of competent jurisdiction, shall
be punished by a fine of not more than five hundred dollars, or by im-
prisonment for a time not exceeding twelve months, or by both such fine
and imprisonment.

SUPERINTENDENT OF LAMPS AND LIGHTING.*

1898, ch. 123.

204. There shall be a Superintendent of Lamps and Lighting, who
shall be appointed by the Mayor in the manner prescribed in Section 25
of this Charter, and hold his office as therein provided. He shall have
under his charge and supervision the lighting of the City of Baltimore,
and shall perform the duties now performed by the General Superin-
tendent of Lamps and Inspector and Sealer of Gas Meters, and such other
duties as may be prescribed by ordinances, not inconsistent with this
Charter. He shall have power to appoint an assistant, who shall perform
all the duties now performed by the Inspector of Illuminating Gas and
Oils. The Superintendent of Lamps and Lighting shall have the power
to appoint such number of district superintendents of lamplighters as the
