PUBLIC EDUCATION. 457

Nothing in this section shall prevent the organization of junior high
schools comprising the higher elementary grades and one or two of the high
school grades; and such schools when organized according to regulations
of the State Board of Education, and satisfactorily administered, may re-
ceive State aid on the basis of the amount of high school instruction given.

195. No white high school teacher regularly employed in the public
high schools of the State of Maryland shall receive a salary of less than
eleven hundred and fifty dollars ($1, 150) per school year, provided that
if such teacher holds a high school teacher's certificate of the first class, and
has taught in an approved high school of the State of Maryland for a period
of one year, such teacher shall receive a salary of not less than twelve hun-
dred dollars ($1, 200) per school year; provided, further, if such teacher
holds a high school teacher's certificate of the first class, and has taught in
an approved high school of the State of Maryland for a period of three
years, such teacher shall receive a salary of not less than one thousand two
hundred and fifty dollars ($1, 250) per school year; provided, further, if
such teacher holds a high school teacher's certificate of the first class, and
has taught in an approved high school of the State of Maryland for a period
of five years, such teacher shall receive a salary of not less than one thou-
sand three hundred dollars ($1, 300) per school year; and provided, fur-
ther, if such teacher holds a high school teacher's certificate of the first
class and has taught in an approved high school of the State of Maryland
for a period of seven years, such teacher shall receive a salary of not less
than one thousand three hundred and fifty dollars ($1, 350) per school year.

No white principal of a first group high school shall receive a salary of
less than one thousand five hundred and fifty dollars ($1, 550) per school
year; provided, that if such principal holds a high school principal's
certificate of the first class and has served as principal of an approved high
school of the first group in the State of Maryland for a period of one year,
such principal shall receive a salary of at least one thousand six hundred
and fifty dollars ($1, 650) per school year; provided, such principal hold-
ing such certificate has served as principal of an approved high school of
the first group in the State of Maryland for a period of three years, such
principal shall receive a salary of at least one thousand seven hundred and
fifty dollars ($1, 750) per school year; provided, if such principal holding
such certificate has served as principal of an approved high school of the
first group in the State of Maryland for a period of five years, such prin-
cipal shall receive a salary of at least one thousand eight hundred and fifty
dollars ($1, 850) per school year; provided, that if such principal holding
such certificate has served as principal of an approved high school of the
first group in the State of Maryland for a period of seven years, such prin-
cipal shall receive a salary of at least one thousand nine hundred and fifty
dollars ($1, 950) per school year. And provided, further, if a high school
