slope or drift, excepting the tipple and trestle thereto, as in the judgment
of the Bureau may constitute a fire hazard, unless the same be built of fire-
proof material satisfactory to such Bureau; and at gaseous mines, fan-
houses shall be constructed of fire-proof material; and no fire shall be per-
mitted in any tipple, or other structure connected with any shaft, unless
the same be built of fire-proof material.

143. The operator may search or cause to be searched, any person en-
tering or about to enter, any gaseous mine, to prevent such person from
taking or carrying therein, any intoxicating liquors, matches, pipes, cigars,
cigarettes, or any device for making light or fire not authorized or ap-
proved.
TITLE VII—EXPLOSIVES: USE AT MINE.
CHAPTER XXI—Storage; Precautions.

144. It shall be unlawful for any person to have, use or permit to be
used at or within any gaseous or dusty coal mine within this State, any
explosive of any type or kind not designated as " permissible," and ap-
proved by the Bureau; or to use any such explosive except in such a man-
ner and with such precautions as are recommended by the manufacturer
thereof and approved by the Bureau; and all such explosives shall be care-
fully packed in containers or packages, which shall be plainly marked
with the name of the explosive and its manufacturer, the quantity and full
instructions upon the safe method of handling the same.

145. The Bureau shall make regulations to govern the supply, storage,
transportation and handling of explosives intended for use in or about
any such mine, and the use of such explosives, including the quantity to
be kept on hand, in storage, and for immediate use within the mine; the
distance from the mine and from mine buildings and from any habita-
tions, and precautions against accidental ignition thereof.

146. If any person shall open any container of explosives by the use
of a pick or any other method which may endanger the safety of pers'ons
or property within such mine and in disregard of proper instructions for
opening such containers, such act shall be a misdemeanor.

147. In all gaseous or dusty mines, the district mine inspector may by
special safety order, approved by the Bureau, require the operator thereof
