Volunteer Firemen.

17. Whenever any volunteer fireman in good standing, of an incor-
porated volunteer fire company, in the State, shall be permanently disabled
as a direct result from active participation in fighting a fire or while going
to or from a fire, the said fireman shall lay his case before the Executive
Committee of the Maryland State Firemen's Association, supported in all
cases by the recommendation of the fire company of which he is a member,
and the Executive Committee aforesaid shall proceed to consider the same,
and if the facts are found as above stated, the name of the fireman shall be
placed on a list to be kept by the Secretary of State, to be known as " Dis-
abled Firemen's List," and every person so placed on said list shall be
entitled to receive a pension from the State of Three Hundred and Sixty
Dollars ($360) per annum, to be paid by the Treasurer of the Maryland
State Firemen's Association so long as such pensioner is without other
means of comfortable support.

18. In case of the death of any volunteer fireman by accident or by
sickness resulting from the active participation in fighting a fire or while
going to or from a fire, and he leaves a widow and a dependent child or
children, the case shall be laid before said Executive Committee of the
Maryland State Firemen's Association, and if the facts are established '
as provided in Section 17, the widow and child or children as the case
might be, shall be placed on said " Disabled Firemen's List," and the
widow shall be entitled to receive a pension from the State of two hundred
and forty dollars ($240) annually, to be paid by the Treasurer of the
Maryland State Firemen's Association during widowhood, and each of
the children of said deceased fireman shall receive a pension from the State
of sixty dollars ($60) per annum, to be paid by the Treasurer of the
Maryland State Firemen's Association, until they each attain the age of
fourteen years.

19. The Secretary of the State shall on or before the 20th day of the
months of September, December, March and June, of each year, certify
to the Comptroller of the State, the sum of money necessary for the payment
of said pensions for the current quarter as provided by Sections 17 and
18, and the Comptroller shall on or before the first day of the months of
October, January, April and July, issue his warrant on the Treasurer
of the State in favor of the Treasurer of the Maryland State Firemen's
Association for the amount so certified, which amount shall be distributed
by said Treasurer according to the list aforesaid.

20. The sum of Eighteen hundred dollars ($1,800), or so much thereof
as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated annually out of any moneys
