for regular (academic) high school work, and the sum of one hundred
and fifty dollars ($150) on account of each additional full-time high
school teacher, provided the total amount does not exceed the sum of five
thousand dollars ($5,000). For high schools in Baltimore City the
amount on account of each of the senior high schools shall be six thou-
sand dollars ($6,000). In this Chapter the term "Special Teacher''
shall be construed to mean a teacher of commercial, manual, or indus-
trial training, home economics, agricultural branches, music, physical edu-
cation, fine or applied arts. Each county high school in the second group
shall receive State aid on the basis of the cost of instruction, and in the
following manner: One-half the salary of the principal not exceeding
the sum of seven hundred dollars ($700), and the sum of five hundred
dollars ($500) on account of one assistant teacher. Each high school of
the third group shall receive State aid on the basis of the cost of instruc-
tion, and in the following manner: One-half the salary of the principal,
not exceeding six hundred and fifty dollars ($650).
State aid shall not be allowed for the third assistant employed in any
high school unless such high school has an enrollment of at least sixty-
five bona fide high school pupils and an average daily attendance of at
least fifty pupils; and State aid shall not be allowed for the fourth assis-
tant employed in any high school unless such high school has an enroll-
ment of at least ninety-five bona fide high school pupils, and an average
daily attendance of seventy-five pupils; and State aid shall not be allowed
for the fifth assistant employed in any high school unless such high school
has an enrollment of one hundred and twenty-five bona fide high school
pupils and an average daily attendance of one hundred pupils; and State
aid shall not be allowed for the sixth, or any additional teacher, unless
for each of such additional teachers there are twenty-five additional-pupils
in average daily attendance. State aid on account of any high school prin-
cipal or teacher shall not exceed one-half of the salary paid to such prin-
cipal or teacher.

198. All certificates or diplomas issued to students having completed
a course of study in a county high school shall show the group to which
said high school belongs, the course taken by the students, and the num-
ber of years of instruction given; and the graduates of any approved high
school providing a four years' course shall be admitted without examina-
tion to the freshman class of any college of Maryland receiving financial
aid from the State; provided .said graduate pursued the academic course
in the high schools.
