(b) Any person, and the several officers and employees of any corpora-
tion, who shall violate the foregoing prohibition shall be guilty of a mis-
demeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine of
not more than five hundred dollars ($500.00), or by imprisonment of not
more than six (6) months, or by both fine and imprisonment, in the discre-
tion of the Court.
(c) Any licensee and any officer or employee of a licensee or any person,
who shall violate any of the provisions of Sections one (1), fourteen (14)
or sixteen (16) of this Article shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon
conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine of not more than five hun-
dred dollars ($500), or by imprisonment of not more than six (6) months,
or by both such fine and imprisonment, in the discretion of the Court.
(d) No loan for which a greater rate of interest or charge than is allowed
by this Article has been contracted for or received, wherever made, shall
be enforced in this State, and any person in any wise participating therein
in this State shall be subject to the provisions of this Article.

19. This Article shall not apply to any person, co-partnership or cor-
poration doing business under any law of this State, or of the United States,
relating to banks, trust companies, or building and loan associations, or
to companies or corporations making loans at a rate of interest not exceeding
6% per annum, charging a fee not exceeding 2% of the amount of the loan,
to cover the cost of investigating the character and circumstances of the
borrower and of the co-makers of the borrower's note evidencing the loan,
and requiring the borrower as security for such loan, to purchase Certifia-
cates of Investment or choses in action equal in amount to the sum borrowed
and to pay therefor in equal weekly or monthly instalments covering
approximately the period of the loan, provided that the proceeds of said
Certificates of Investment or choses in action shall, at the option of the
borrower, be received at maturity in payment of said loan.

20. This Article may be cited as the Uniform Small Loan Law.
(a) This Article shall be so interpreted and construed as to effectuate its
general remedial purpose and to make uniform the laws of those States
which enact it.1
