pardon are being faithfully complied with by said person. And whenever
the Circuit Court of any County or the Criminal Court of Baltimore shall
suspend the sentence of, or parole, any person convicted of crime, and shall
direct such person to continue, for a time certain or until otherwise or-
dered, under the supervision of said Commissioner it shall be the duty of
said Commissioner to supervise, as directed by said Court, the life and
conduct of such person, and to ascertain and report to said Court whether
or not the conditions of such parole or suspension of sentence are being
faithfully complied with by said person.

56. The sum of fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000) annually is hereby
appropriated to pay the salaries of the Secretary and the parole officers,
herein provided for, and for the purchase of all needful books and records
and for the necessary traveling and other expenses of said parole commis-
sioner and of said parole officers, and shall be payable on the order or
orders of said Parole Commissioner, in such amounts and at such intervals
as said Commissioner shall direct, and the Comptroller shall draw his war-
rant upon the Treasurer of Maryland for such amounts and at such intervals
as directed by the said Parole Commissioner as aforesaid.

57. The Commissioner of the Land Office shall be assigned to the
Executive Department. He shall have and exercise the rights, powers,
duties, obligations and functions now or hereafter conferred by law.

58. The Superintendent of Public Buildings and Grounds, appointed
as at present, shall be assigned to the Executive Department, He shall

59. For the purpose of properly and efficiently keeping and guarding
the public buildings and grounds in the city of Annapolis and the movable
property of the State therein, the governor shall appoint the following
officers, to wit: A competent person to be superintendent of public build-
ings and grounds, who shall be paid a salary of twelve hundred dollars per
annum; an assistant superintendent, who shall be paid a salary of nine
hundred dollars per annum; a person to take charge of the governor's man-
sion and the premises thereof, at a salary of eight hundred and forty
dollars per annum; three persons to watch and guard the public buildings
by day, and to act also as policemen, at a salary of seven hundred and
