22. They shall be entitled to be paid in criminal cases by the county
or city of Baltimore, as the case may be, the following fees:

For taking depositions in cases of contested elections, per day..... 3 00

23. No justice shall charge, take and receive any fees or compensa-
tion for mileage, or journey fee for the performance of any duty or busi-
ness relating to his office as justice of the peace except what the party
may agree to pay to a justice going from his office to take the acknowledg-
ment of a deed or other instrument of writing.
