1178 ARTICLE 27.

be authorized in the name of the State and for the use of said Board, to
institute suit on said bond for any breach thereof. If any of the persons
aforesaid shall neglect to execute a bond as herein prescribed within
twenty days after having been directed so to do by the said Board the said
delinquent shall be dismissed from his employment.

682. The said Board shall have full power and authority to make,
repeal, alter or amend such rules and regulations, not inconsistent with law,
for the maintenance, discipline and conduct of institutions, prisoners,
officials and employees, by this sub-title placed under its supervision or
control, as may be necessary and convenient for the propfer administration
of the power, authority and discretion conferred upon it by this sub-title.
Every member of said Board, and every employee thereof, and every
Warden and other employees connected with any of said institutions, shall
perform and discharge the duties that may be assigned to him by law or
by the rules and regulations of said Board, not inconsistent with law; and,
if any of the persons aforesaid, after having accepted his office or employ-
ment, shall omit or refuse to discharge any such duty, or shall otherwise
violate any of the provisions of law or any of the rules and regulations of
said Board, not inconsistent with law, he shall forthwith be dismissed from
his office or employment.

683. Each prisoner in any of said institutions shall be entitled to a
diminution of the period of his confinement under the following rules and
regulations:

(1) For each calendar month commencing on the first day of the month
next after his arrival at the institution, during which he shall not be guilty
of a violation of the discipline or any of the rules thereof and shall labor
with diligence and fidelity, he shall be allowed a deduction of five days
from each month of the period of the commitment or sentence.

(2) For each and every violation of the rules and discipline of the
institution, or want of fidelity or care in the performance of work, the
person therein confined shall not only forfeit all gained time in the month
in which such delinquency occurs, but, according to the aggravated nature
or frequency of his offense, the Board may deduct a portion of all of his
gained time.

684. No member of the Board of Welfare, or any employee of said
Board, or any Warden, or other employee in connection with any of said
institutions, shall be directly or indirectly concerned or interested in any
contract, purchase or sale made by said Board, or by its authority or shall
accept any reward or gift or any promise of any reward or gift directly
or indirectly from any person interested in any contract, purchase or sale
made by said Board or by its authority, and every member of said Board
