143. When any person shall be convicted of any statutory felony or
misdemeanor, for the false or fraudulent obtention or embezzlement, se-
creting or making way with goods, chattels, valuable effects, money or
securities, the court before whom any such conviction shall be had may
award restitution to the real owner thereof; provided, however, that no
bona fide holder thereof shall be obliged to surrender up the same.

144. Every person who by any false pretense shall obtain from any
club, association, society or company for improving the breed of cattle,
horses, sheep, swine and other domestic animals a certificate of registra-
tion of any animal in the herd register or other register of any such club,
association, society or company, or a transfer of any such registration,
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be
fined not less than ten nor more than one hundred dollars.

145. Any person who shall by any false and fraudulent representa-.
tion in writing, signed by him as to his own or his partner's pecuniary re-
sponsibility, wealth or mercantile correspondence or connections, obtain
any loan of money or of property from any person, persons, copartnership
or corporation and shall thereby defraud such person, persons, copartner-
ship or corporation, or who shall cause or procure another to make any
false and fraudulent representation in writing, signed by the person mak-
ing the same, as to the pecuniary responsibility, wealth or mercantile
correspondence, or connections of the person who shall cause or procure
such false representation to be made, or of any other person, and shall
thereby obtain any loan of money or of property from any person, persons,
copartnership or corporation, and shall thereby defraud such person, per-
sons, copartnership or corporation, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and
on conviction thereof shall be sentenced to return the money or property
so fraudulently obtained, and shall be fined not exceeding two thousand
dollars, or shall be confined in the jail of the county or the city of Balti-
more, as the case may be, not exceeding one year, or shall be both fined
and imprisoned as aforesaid, in the discretion of the court.

146. Any person, who shall knowingly make or cause to be made,
either directly or indirectly, or through any agency whatsoever, any false
statement in writing, with intent that it shall be relied upon, respecting
the financial condition, or means or ability to pay, of himself, or any other
person, firm or corporation, in whom he is interested, or for whom he is
acting, for the purpose of procuring in any form whatsoever, either the
delivery of personal property, the payment of cash, the making of a loan
or credit, the extension of a credit, the discount of an account receivable,
or the making, acceptance, discount, sale or endorsement of a bill of ex-
