468 LICENSES. [ART. LVI
All pedestrians shall have the right of way at street crossings in the
towns and cities of this State. Between street crossings in such towns
and cities, vehicles shall have the right of way.
Any person operating any vehicle in a manner contrary to any of the
provisions of this section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor,
and upon conviction subject to a fine of not less than five dollars ($5.00)
nor more than fifty dollars ($50.00) for the first offense.*
Detective Agencies and Agents.
1916, ch. 704, sec. 164.
164. Every person, firm or corporation, resident or non-resident,
maintaining a private detective agency in this State shall, before act-
ing as such, take out a license therefor and pay to the Clerk of the
Circuit Court in the County in which such person, firm or corporation
may be located, or to the Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas of Balti-
more City, if located in Baltimore City, the sum of one hundred dollars
per annum. Provided, however, this Section shall not apply to detec-
tives regularly employed by any State, County or City.
Moving Picture Shows and Carnivals.
1916, ch. 704, sec. 165.
165. That for the exhibition by any automatic moving picture
machine, phonograph, graphophone, or similar musical machine, except
for benevolent, charitable or educational purposes, where the price of
admission to such exhibition does not exceed the sum of five cents, the
following license fees shall be annually paid:
Places of amusement having a seating capacity of less than
two hundred.........................................each $ 15.00
Those having a seating capacity of more than two hundred,
and less than three hundred......................... each $ 30.00
Those having a seating capacity of more than three hundred,
and less than four hundred........................each $ 35.00
Those having a seating capacity of more than four hundred,
and less than five hundred............................each $ 40.00
Those having a seating capacity of more than five hundred,
and less than one thousand...........................each $ 45.00
Those having a seating capacity of more than one thou-
sand..............................................each $ 50.00
Where the price of admission to such exhibition is ten cents, or more,
the following license fees shall be annually paid:
*Section 2 of the act of 1916. chapter 687, repeals "all acts and parts of acts,
laws and parts of laws, ordinances and parts of ordinances, inconsistent herewith
or contrary hereto * * * to the extent of such inconsistency."
