thereto, or upon any box, package, cover or wrapper in which
said article is encased or enclosed the word "sterling" or the
word "coin," either alone or in, conjunction with any other
words or marks, is guilty of a misdemeanor.
SEO. 190. Every person, firm, corporation or association
guilty of a violation of any one of the preceding sections of
this act, and every officer, manager, director or managing agent
of any such person, firm, corporation or association directly
participating in such violation or consenting thereto, shall be
punished by a fine of not more than $500 or imprisonment for
not more than three months, or both, at the discretion of the
Court; provided, that if the person charged with violation of
this act .shall prove that the article concerning which the charge
is made was manufactured prior to the first day of July, 1912,
then the charge shall be dismissed; provided, that nothing con-
tained: in this act shall be construed so as to affect any present-
ment, indictment or prosecution commenced or pending prior to
taking effect of this act.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the first day of July, 1912.

CHAPTER 640.
AN ACT to authorize the Governor of Maryland to cede certain
highways and any State Road or Highway in any county
and to grant the right to condemn any highways, roads, toll
roads, or rights of way where no satisfactory road exists or
where an existing road is desired to be widened or straight-
ened or to condemn any property, right or facility necessary
for the purposes of such memorial highway in any county
or counties of the State to the United States Government on
and over which is to be constructed a Memorial Highway
to the memory of Abraham Lincoln.
WHEREAS, There has been appropriated or is about to be appro-
priated a certain sum of money by the United States Govern-
ment with which to build, erect or construct a Memorial to
Abraham Lincoln; and,
WHEREAS, It is the desire on the part of many citizens of this
State and of the United States that said memorial be in
the shape of a boulevard or national highway to run from
