628 LAWS OP MARYLAND. [Ch. 448]

CHAPTER 447.

AN ACT to add a section to Article 1 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland, title "Allegany County," sub-title
"Cumberland," to be designated as section 63B, authorizing
and empowering the Mayor and City Council of Cumberland
to sell and furnish electric light and power to the citizens of
Cumberland for domestic and manufacturing purposes, and
to erect such plant and buildings, and to purchase such
machinery and appliances as may be required, and to do
anything necessary to give effect to this act.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a section be added to Article 1 of the Public Local
Laws of Maryland, title "Allegany County," sub-title "Cum-
berland," to be designated as section 63B, and to read as fol-
lows :

63B. The Mayor and City Council of Cumberland shall
have the power to sell and furnish electric light and power to
the citizens of Cumberland for domestic and manufacturing
purposes, upon such terms as the Mayor and City Council shall
prescribe, to erect such plant and buildings; purchase and
install machinery and appliances as may be required, and to
do anything necessary to effectuate the object and purposes of
this act.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

Approved April 8, 1912.

CHAPTER 448.

AN ACT for the payment of an annual pension to Jesse G.
Dwyer, of Chestertown, who lost his sight whilst in the
employ of the State.

WHEREAS, Jesse G. Dwyer, of Chestertown, was employed as an
officer by the directors of the House of Correction and was
under the direction of the superintendent thereof; and,

WHEREAS, Owing to a vicious assault of a prisoner was seriously
and permanently injured and disabled and the said Dwyer,
by reason of said assault, and not for any fault on his part,.
