CHAPTER 96.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments section 397 of

Article 27 of the Code of Public General Laws, title "Crimes

and Punishments," sub-title "State Penitentiary," as

amended by Chapter 237 of the Acts of 1908, and to enact

an additional section to Article 27 of the Code of Public

General Laws to be known as section 397A, and providing for

the annual appointment, in the discretion of the board of

directors of the Maryland Penitentiary, of John F. Weyler

as Warden Emeritus at an annual salary of three thousand

dollars, and prescribing the duties of said Warden Emeritus.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That section 397 of Article 27 of the Code of Public Gen-
eral Laws, title "Crimes and Punishments," sub-title "State
Penitentiary," be and the same is hereby repealed and re-
enacted with amendments, so that it shall read as follows:

397. The Warden shall receive a salary at the rate of two
thousand dollars per year and allowance of subsistence, fuel and
occupancy as a dwelling of such parts of the front buildings as
are not used for prison purposes, also all necessary outhouses,
yards and grounds not within the walls of the prison proper,
but shall receive no other compensation or perquisite.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That an additional sec-
tion be added to Article 27, Code of Public General Laws, to be
known as section 397A and to read as follows:

39?A. On account of the long, faithful and efficient service
of John F. Weyler, the present Warden of the Maryland Peni-
tentiary, the board of directors of said Maryland Penitentiary
are authorized and empowered in their discretion to appoint
annually the said John F. Weyler as Warden Emeritus of the
Maryland Penitentiary, at the annual salary of three thousand
dollars, payable monthly. It shall- be the duty of said Warden
Emeritus, under the supervision and control of the said board
of directors, to perform such services and give such counsel and
advice to the said board of directors and to the Warden of the
Maryland Penitentiary as the said board of directors may
require or direct.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this act shall take
effect on May 1st, 1912.
