instead of nomination. In the event, however, that no petition
is filed within twenty-four hours prior to the opening of the
polls on the day of election, to fill such vacancy or vacancies, or
in the event any candidate or candidates shall die or decline
the nomination within ninety-six hours prior to the opening
of the polls on the day of election, no additional nominations
shall be made, provided there be a sufficient number of names on
the ballot to fill the office or offices to be voted for at any such
election, but if no petition to fill such vacancy or vacancies
be filed within twenty-four hours prior to the opening of the
polls on the day of election, or in the event any candidate or
candidates shall die or decline the nomination within ninety-
six hours, prior to the opening of the polls on the day of elec-
tion, and there be not a sufficient number of names on the
bollot to fill the office or offices to be voted for at any such
election, then in that event the election provided for shall be
postponed until a primary election to fill such vacancy or
vacancies shall first be held, which primary election shall take
place within twenty days from the date of such death, resigna-
tion or contingency, and said primary election shall be held in
the manner provided for in this article.

In case of any nominee dying within so short a time before
the day of election that the certificate of nomination of the new
nominee shall not have been filed with the city register until
after six days before election, thus being too late for the name
of the new nominee to be printed on the ballot, the city register
shall at once cause to be printed a sufficient number of stickers
bearing the name of such substituted nominee and shall deliver
same in due time to the judges of election of each precinct in
said city, and said judges shall affix such stickers in the proper
places on each ticket before it is given out to the voters. If
the resignation or disqualification, or death and consequent
change of nominee shall have occurred and been made after the
first publication provided for in section 270MM, and before the
second publication, the city register shall, if possible, make the
proper change in the second publication. If questions of local
concern are to be submitted for approval to the vote of the peo-
ple of said city the same shall be certified to the city register
within the said period by the board of aldermen and shall be
advertised as herein provided in the case of nominees for city
offices.

SEC. 270SS. Upon the said ballot the names of the candi-
date for mayor, alphabetically arranged shall first be placed,
with a square at the right of each name, -and immediately above
the words "Vote for one." Following these names, likewise
