152 court of appeals of maryland

None of the judges of the old Court of Ap-
peals became candidates for seats on the same
court under the new constitution. Judge Frick
and Judge Spence were elected to seats on their
local trial courts, and Judge Martin after remov-
ing his residence to Baltimore City, later became
Judge of the Superior Court; but the others,
Chief Judge Dorsey, Judges Chambers and Ma-
gruder, retired from judicial life. Judge Cham-
bers was in 1852 offered the post of Secretary of
the Navy, by President Fillmore, but he declined
it.

Six former county judges were elected judges
of the new circuits, and two were elected to the
Court of Appeals.

The last sessions of the court before the Con-
stitution of 1851 was given full effect, were in
June that year, June 2, on the Eastern Shore,
and June 28, on the Western Shore. On the East-
ern Shore, however Judge Chambers alone at-
tended at the regular time for a session, and ad-
journed court until the court in course.
