REPORT OF THE COMPTROLLER OF THE TREASURY 65

STATEMENT "EE"

Baltimore, Maryland,
October 1st, 1936.

HONORABLE WILLIAM S. GORDY, JR.,

Comptroller of the Treasury,

Annapolis, Maryland.

Honorable Sir:

I herewith submit the following report of the License Inspectors of the
State of Maryland for the fiscal year beginning October 1st, 1935, and end-
ing September 30th, 1936.

The total result of the inspection of licenses over the State of Maryland
for the year 1935-36 amounted to $66,767.69. Of this amount $30,102.45 was
collected in Baltimore 'City, which included a penalty of $5,300.91. In the
counties $36,665.24 was collected, which included a penalty of $6,134.54,
and the total amount of penalty collected over the State was $11,435.45.

I am again calling your attention to the fact that the "Less than 1600
square feet" garage license fee, which is now only $5.00 per year, should
be made $15.00 per year, as it formerly was, this license fee being too incon-
sistent with the scale of prices of the garage license law.

While the amount of delinquency in Worcester County seems high this
is due to the fact that about $2000.00 of this amount is collected, without
penalty, during the month of July from the concessionaires doing business
in Ocean City, who operate there only during the summer months.

Baltimore €ity and all the counties throughout the State show a sub-
stantial increase in the receipts of licenses during the past fiscal year,
thereby showing a decided decrease in the amount of delinquency reported
by the State License Inspectors.

I am submitting you in addition to my annual report a summary of the
amount, by years, including penalty, reported and collected, since the
inauguration of the State License Bureau in 1922.

Every County in the State has been visited by an Inspector during the
past fiscal year. The following is a list of the different kinds of licenses
found to be necessary by the State License Inspectors in Baltimore City and
the 'Counties, and which had not been secured:

NOTE: Miscellaneous Licenses consist of the following licenses: Bill Brokers,
Horse Brokers, Carnivals, Cash Registers and Adding Machines, Check Rooms, Circus,
Commercial, Mercantile and Protective Agencies, Hawkers and Peddlers, Intelligence
Offices and Employment Agencies, Junk Dealers, Livery Stables, Non-Resident Wholesale
Tobacco Dealers, Pawnbrokers, Shoe Shining Parlors and Hat Cleaning Establishments,
Shows, Stevedores, Storage Warehouses, Theatre, Trading Stamp Companies, Typewriting
Machines, Wholesale Dealers in Farm Machinery and Wholesale Liquor Druggist.
