Since the passage of the State Beer Law by the last Legislature, legaliz-
ing the sale of 3.2% beer, and placing fourteen (14) counties under State
supervision and naming the Bureau of State Licenses the authority to pass
on protested licenses, we have been compelled to devote quite a lot of time
to this added license. This addition to the law involved much correspondence
and many interviews, in addition to the hearing of seventy-five (75) cases
where objections had been filed with the Clerks of the Courts protesting
against the issuance of a license to sell beer, lager beer, etc. These petitions
of protest were signed by two thousand and thirteen (2,013) persons, and
each protestant was notified to appear at the hearing of the case in which
they had entered an objection, which was held at the Court House in each
particular county where the application was made. Of the seventy-five (75)
cases heard by this Bureau forty-six (46) were granted a license and twenty-
nine (29) were refused.
