REPORT OF THE COMPTROLLER OF THE TREASURY 63

STATEMENT "Y"

YEARLY REPORT OF THE CHIEF INSPECTOR OF
STATE LICENSES

October 1, 1931 to October 1, 1932

Baltimore, Md.,
October 1, 1932.

HONORABLE WILLIAM S. GORDY, JR.,

Comptroller of the Treasury,

Annapolis, Md.

Honorable Sir:

I herewith submit the following report of the License Inspectors of the
State of Maryland for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 1931, and ending
October 1, 1932.

The total result of the inspection of licenses over the State of Maryland
for the year 1931-32 amounted to $76,970.15. Of this amount $40,134.42
was reported in Baltimore City, which included a penalty of $11,774.19. In
the counties $36,835.73 was reported, which included a penalty of $6,076.18,
and the total amount of penalty collected over the State was $17,850.37.

During the past year many of the large business places throughout the
State have reduced their stock of merchandise, and quite a number have
•discontinued business, which necessarily shows a decrease in the receipts of
the sale of traders' licenses.

The present minimum garage license fee (for a garage containing not
more than 1,600 square feet) is $5.00. I recommend that this license fee be
changed to $15.00, the same as it was in 1929.

Every county in the State has been visited by an Inspector during the
past fiscal year, and Baltimore County has been visited twice.

The following1 is a list of the different kind of licenses found to be neces-
sary by the License Inspectors in Baltimore City and the counties, and
which had not been secured:
