REPORT OF THE COMPTROLLER OF THE TREASURY 65

YEARLY REPORT OF THE CHIEF INSPECTOR
STATE LICENSES

October 1, 1928 to October 1, 1929

Baltimore, Md.,
October 1, 1929.

HONORABLE WILLIAM S. GORDY, JR.,
Comptroller of the Treasury,
Annapolis, Md.
Honorable Sir:

I herewith submit the following report of the License Inspectors of the
State of Maryland for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 1928, and ending
September 30, 1929.

The total result of the inspection of licenses over the State for the year
1928-29 amounted to $83,452.29. Of this amount $40,829.21 was repoited
in Baltimore City and $33,661.61 was reported in the Counties, and the total
amount of penalty collected over the State was $8,961.47.

The Legislature of 1929 passed a "Penalty Law", penalizing all persons
who fail to renew their State Licenses before June 1st of this (and every)
year, 10% of the cost of the license. The License Inspectors have found
this to be one of the most effective license measures passed since the in-
auguration of the License Bureau. In the counties we 'have found this to
be more effective than in Baltimore City.

The following counties showed a decided decrease in the number of
delinquents for the year: Allegany, Anne Arundel, Dorchester, Kent and
Wicomico.

Following is a report of the counties and Baltimore City, individually and
collectively:
