REPORT

«

OF THE

COMPTROLLER OF THE TREASURY

OF THE
STATE OF MARYLAND

TREASURY DEPARTMENT, COMPTROLLER'S OFFICE,

ANNAPOLIS, MD., December 12th, 1911.

To the Honorable, The General Assembly of Maryland:

It becomes my duty, as well as pleasure, to submit herewith
my annual report for the fiscal year ended September 30th,
1911, as required by Section 9 of Article 19 of the Code of
Public General Laws of Maryland.

RECEIPTS.

The total gross receipts of the Treasury proper during the
fiscal year as shown in Statement "A" were $8,706,493.45, to
which must be added the cash balance on hand September 30th,
1910, amounting to $875,111.16, making an aggregate of
$9,581,604.61, or by far the largest amount ever received into
the Treasury for a like period.

Some elucidation, however, is necessary in order to properly
understand these largely increased receipts. Otherwise you
might be misled into supposing these figures were the actual
working cash in the Treasury applicable to all demands
thereon. Such is not the case, however, for these are certain
revenues distinctly set apart for specific purposes and must be
used for those only, viz: moneys arising from the sale of bonds,
taxes collected for public schools, sinking funds, etc., which
form a very large part of our receipts.
