year to his Excellency the Governor of the State, there is a con-
siderable amount of indebtedness from State officers shown in
said table, a great deal of which is worthless, but of which I will
speak more in detail later on.
The assets above mentioned as "productive" and -''unpro-
ductive," are given in detail in Statement "I" I also call your
attention to the several loans contained in Statement I, which
fall due in 1890. Provision for the payment of the same will
have to be made by the present Legislature.
ASSESSMENTS OF REAL AND PERSONAL PROPERTY.
'"Statement K" shows the assessment of Real and Personal
Property, in the several counties and city of Baltimore, for the
year 1889, the aggregate of which is $477,398,380, being less than
that of 1888 by $12,617,803. It will thus be seen what a large
decrease in the value of Real Estate of Maryland has taken place
within the last year.
The levy for State taxes for 1889 on the Real and Personal
Property of the State, at 17f cents on each hundred dollars,
amounted to $847,382.10.
PUBLIC SCHOOL TAXES.
The State levy for Public Schools is shown in detail in "State-
ment L," amounting in the aggregate to $501,268.28.
The receipts of School Tax during the fiscal year amounted to
$545,956.78.
The disbursements of School Tax during the fiscal year
amounted to $535,191.85. The entire amount of Public School
Tax will not be distributed, however, until the close of the school
year, 15th of June next.
LICENSES, &c.
"Table No. 1," shows the receipts of revenue from various
Licenses mentioned therein, interest and excess of fees of Clerks
ot Courts and other officers therein named, amounting in the
aggregate to $514,101.74.
"Table No. 2," shows the receipts of. State Tax on Collateral
Inheritance, tax on Commissions of Executors and Administra-
tors, and excess of fees of office of certain Registers of Wills,
amounting in the aggregate to $98,451.70.
"Table No. 3," exhibits in detail the receipts of State Taxes
from Collectors in the several counties and city of Baltimore
