The General Assembly of Maryland :
I respectfully submit to you my fourth annual re-
port of the financial condition of the State, giving in
detail the operations of the Treasury Department for
the fiscal year, ending on the 30th day of Septem-
ber, 1887.
RECEIPTS.
The receipts for the fiscal year ending 30th Septem-
ber, 1887, amounted to $2,440,303.53, which, added to
the balance in the treasury on September 30th, 1886,
makes the total amount which has been in the treasury
proper during the year to be the sum of $3,056,939.87.
Of the amount so received during the year, the sum
of $463,373.00 was received on account of "the Ex-
change Loan of 1886." After deducting this last-men-
tioned sum, it will be seen that the ordinary receipts
for the year were $1,976,990.53.
While this amount is about $18,000.00 less than the
receipts for the year 1886, the difference is more than
accounted for by the reduction in the cost of marriage
licenses from $4.00 to 50 cents. The amount received
in 1886 from this source was $24,226.98; the amount re-
