bacco warehouse number one, destroyed by fire," &c. Claims
have been filed by two of the clerks, viz, Jeremiah Kenney
and Thomas J. Talbot, accompanied with proof of services
performed, &c., but no definite action was arrived at, until
since the close of the fiscal year. These claims have been
since audited and paid, the claim of the former to the amount
of $600.00, and that of the latter to the amount of $498.00.
STATE HOUSE OF CORRECTION.

This institution which has been in progress of erection for
some time, was completed and handed over to the Board of
Public Works and Attorney General on the 13th of Novem-
ber last. It is a commodious structure find is believed to be
one of the strongest and most substantial prison buildings in
the United States.

The structure consists of the main building and one wing,
being so built as to admit of the addition of another wing,
when the demand for it shall become apparent. It is not be-
lieved to be necessary that the Legislature should contract an-
other debt, to enlarge it at the present time.

Nearly the whole of the proceeds of the loan authorize for
the purpose, together with the money received from the pol-
icy of insurance on the dwelling house on the premises, which
was destroyed by fire, has been exhausted in its erection, and
the small balance yet in the Treasury, on this account, will
be required to settle some outsanding expenses. A consid-
erable sum will be necessary to furnish the building.and pro-
vide heat, water and light, so as to fit the institution for the
reception of prisoners.

REPAIRS ON THE STATE HOUSE.

By the Act of 1876, Chapter 194, appropriations were made
for sundry repairs on the State House, amounting in the ag-
gregate to the sum of $32,000.00. These repairs, which by
the Act were placed under the control of the Board of Public
Works, were commenced in the spring of 1877.

The repairs had hardly commenced, before it was ascertain-
ed by the architect, that the foundation of the building was
insecure, and that other repairs would be necessary besides
those contemplated in the act. To attempt to repair the
