An act to regulate Gates in Kent County.
|
 
|
 
|
Passed June 1,1836
|
WHEREAS, it is represented to this General Assem-
|
 
|
bly, by the petition of sundry citizens of Kent coun-
|

ty, that many of the citizens of Kent county are
|
 
|
compelled from the want of timber, and means of
|
 
|
enclosing their fields, to keep gates on the public roads
|
 
|
passing through their farms; and whereas, the county
|
 
|
court for Kent county, at their last March Term de-
|
 
|
cided that gates on the public roads are public nui-
|
 
|
sances, thereby subjecting the owners or keepers of
|
 
|
them to all the penalties imposed by law on such as
|
 
|
shall obstruct the public high ways, whereby the real
|
 
|
estates of many would he rendered almost valueless,
|
 
|
and many of the citizens ruined without some legisla-
|
 
|
tive aid : Therefore,
|
 
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
|

Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,

it shall and may be lawful for any person or persons in
|
 
|
Kent county, who at the present time have and keep
|
 
|
any gate or gates on the public roads in the said coun-
|

ty, to continue to have and keep the same and no more,

subject nevertheless to all tiie taxes, impositions, re-

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all and every own-

gate or gates, hung on good and sufficient iron hinges,

swinging clear and free, and easily to be opened, and
