RESOLUTIONS,
1831.
Whereas, one of the many great political evils resulting

from the refusal of congress to renew the charter of the

United States Bank would be, beyond all doubt, a relapse

of our currency into its former state of fluctuation and un-

soundness, pregnant with pecuniary injuries and losses, both

public and private — Therefore,

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That

our senators in congress be instructed, and our representa-

tives be requested, to use their best efforts to have the sub-

ject of re-chartering the United States Bank, presented for

definitive action to the consideration of congress, during

the current session — And also,

Resolved, That our senators in congress be instructed,

and our representatives be requested, to exert all fair and

honorable means, to obtain during the present session of

congress a renewal of the charter of the United States

Bank.

Resolved, That the governor be requested to forward a

copy of the foregoing preamble and resolutions to each of

our senators and representatives in congress.

No. 123.

Resolution relating to the Western and Southern Limits of
Passed Mar.5 , 1832
this state.

The committee to whom sundry resolutions were referred

relative to the southern and western limits of this state,

have had the same under consideration, and respectfully re-

port: —

That they have arranged their enquiry in order as pro-

posed by each resolution, beginning with the first, as best

calculated to keep in view the object of the senate, and to

present to the consideration of both branches, of the legis-

lature, the whole mass of facts and circumstances in conse-

cutive form, starting from the root of the title of Maryland

to its domain through all adversary or other pretensions.

1st. Your committee have been instructed to inquire and

report to the senate "what were the true southern and wes-

tern limits of the province of Maryland, according to the

original charter from the king of Great Britain, to Lord

Baltimore."

By an examination of the third section of that charter,

your committee find the grant to Baltimore so defined by

natural boundaries, leading from one point to another all
