stockholders, in order that the said academy might receive

the benefit of the donation granted by a resolution, number
twenty-nine, of the legislature, at December session eigh-
teen hundred and thirty, and in compliance with the provi-
sion of said resolution, have conveyed and transferred by
deed, all their interest in said academy, to the state of Ma-
ryland, whereby il becomes necessary that the state should
assume the management thereof — Therefore,

 

Section 1 . Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That Charles S. Sewell, William Bradford,
William Alien, Stephen J. Raphel, Doctor Joshua
Wiison, George Bradford, Ebenezer N. Alien, Fran-
cis M'Comas, Thomas W. Bond, Dr. James Reardon,
John C. Norris, Benedict F. Waters, William Hunter,
John A. Webster and Thomas I. Calvvell, be, and they are
hereby appointed trustees of said Academy, with all the
powers granted to the trustees appointed by the original
act, except so far as relates to the manner in which trustees
shall hereafter be elected.

Trustees name.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted. That whenever any of the
trustees of said academy, appointed by this act, shall die,
resign, or refuse to act, or shall wilfully neglect to attend
the meeting of the board, for the space of one year, the
remaining trustees, or a majority of them, shall proceed to
elect by ballot, other sensible and discreet person, to fill
such vacancy or vacancies.

Case of vacancies.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the donation of three
hundred dollars, heretofore granted by the resolution before
mentioned, shall be appropriated according to the true in-
tent of said resolution, by paying one hundred dollars an-
nually, and no more, towards the extinguishment of the
debts, the completion of the buildings and the purchase of
the necessary furniture and implements, and when these
purposes shall be answered, that theieafter the whole
amount of said three hundred dollars shall be appropriated
under the direction of the trustees, to the use of the insti-
tution, in the manner that the like donations are usually ap-
plied.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That all laws or parts of laws,
inconsistent with the provisions of this act, be, and the same
are hereby repealed.
