CHAPTER 157.
A Further Supplement to the act passed at November
Session one thousand seven hundred and ninety five,
entitled, An act to establish a Bank, and incorporate
the subscribers thereto.

Portion of
capital may be
invested
|
Section 1, Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the directors of the bank of Baltimore,
and of the Hager's- Town bank respectively, may and they
are hereby authorised, to invest any portion of the capital
of said bank, not exceeding one-third thereof, in stock of
the United Slates, or stock of the state of Maryland, or
corporation stock of the city of Baltimore, whenever they
may deem such investment or investments advantageous to

the said institution; Provided, nothing; herein contained
shall hove nnv force or effect until the stockholders in said
hank, or a majority of them, shall have assented to and ac-
cepted this supplement in general meeting assembled.

tered, &c

Sec. 2. And be it enacted. That nothing; herein con-
tained shall bo construed to prevent the legisla'ure of this
state from altering, amending or repealing, this act, and
cverv thing therein contained, at such time and in such
manner as may be deemed proper.

An Act to promote, Infernal Improvement by the con-
struction of a nail Road from Baltimore to the City
of Washington.
|
Preamble.
|
WHEREAS, a communication by rail ways between the
city of Baltimore, in this state, and the city of Washing-
ton, in the District of Columbia, would be highly benefi-
cial, as well to this state, and its citizens, as to a great
portion of the United States, by the increased facility
of communication it would afford between the eastern
and southern portions of the union; and the Baltimore
and Ohio Rail Road Company have expressed their wil-
lingness and desire, with the concurrence of this legisla-
ture, to construct a rail road, from some suitable point on
that part of the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road already con-
structed, in a direction toward the city of Washington, as
