bill entitled "An Act to regulate the taxation of Coal Min-
ing Companies in this State, for State purposes; that every
Senator present voted for said bill; and whereas, this record
is untrue, and is well known to be so to several Senators now
occupying seats upon this floor, as well as to the present offi-
cers of this Body, who occupied similar positions at the last
Session, and to the President of the last Senate. Now, there-
fore, in justice to the Senators- being the Senator for the First
Legislative District of Baltimore city, the late Senator from
Allegany county, the present Senator from Caltvert county,
and the late Senator from Cecil county, who voted against the
passage of said bill, be it ordered that the foregoing state-
ment be recorded upon this Journal.
Which were adopted.
Mr. Steiner submitted the following message to the House
of Delegates,
BY THE SENATE,
January 22nd, 1874.
Gentlemen of the Souse of Delegates :
We have received your message proposing to increase the
Joint Committee to visit the Institution for the Instruction of
the Deaf and Dumb, at Frederick, to one on the part of the
Senate, and two on the part of the House, and concur therein.
We name on the part of the Senate, as said additional mem-
ber, Mr. B rattan.

Which was read assented to, and sent to the House of
Delegates.
Mr. Lloyd presented the memorial of numerous citizens,
asking the passage of an Act enabling the State to receive
the benefit of the appropriation of 15,000 dollars by the Con-
gress of the United States, for the re-opening of Kent Island
Narrows.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ches-
apeake Bay and its Tributaries.
On motion by Mr, Lloyd, it was
Ordered, That the portion of the Executive Message which
refers to Kent Island Narrows, together with the accompa-
nying papers relating thereto, be referred to the Committee
on the Chesapeake Bay and its Tributaries.
