At a Session of the General Assembly of Maryland, begun and held
at the City of Annapolis, on the Seventh day of January, 1874,
His Excellency WILLIAM PINKNEY WHYTE, being Governor,
the following Laws were enacted, to wit:
CHAPTER 1.

AN ACT to authorize the Governor to appoint an
|
 
|
assistant to the Secretary of State.
|
 
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
|

Maryland, That the Governor be and he is hereby

authorized and empowered, in case of the sickness

|
or absence of the Secretary of State, to appoint, tem-
|
 
|
porarily, an assistant to the Secretary of State, who
|
 
|
is hereby empowered to discharge all the duties im-
|

posed by law upon said Secretary, during his illness
|
 
|
or absence from the seat of government; and the
|
 
|
Governor is authorized to pay, out of the Executive
|
 
|
Contingent Fund, for such services a salary not ex-
|

ceeding one hundred and fifty dollars per month.

|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
|
 
|
effect from the date of its passage.
