AFTERNOON SESSION.

FRIDAY—4 o'clock, P. M.
The House met.

The House proceeded to the consideration of

The bill entitled an Act to add two additional sections to
Article 58, of the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland,
title "Lunatics and Insane," to be numbered twelve and
thirteen.

The question recurring upon the amendment submitted by
Mr. Lancaster,

Mr, Lancaster submitted the following additional amend-
ments:

AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.

Strike out the words "be designated by the Governor of the
State to examine," and insert "have examined."

Section 12, line 5, strike out the word "the," and in-
sert "a."

Section 12, line 6, strike out the words "of this State,"
and insert "of the county, or of the Supreme Bench of Balti-
more City, as the case may be."

Section 12, line 9, strike out the words "to such an extent
as to render such incarceration necessary," and add "and
that such confinement is necessary for his or her recovery or
safety, or to prevent him or her doing injury to others."

The proposed amendments were severally read and
adopted.

Mr. Lancaster submitted tjie following amendment:

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Add after the word "Article," in line 12: "And provided,
That nothing herein contained shall prevent the reception
into any Lunatic or Insane Asylum in this State, of any per-
son, a citizen or subject of another State or power, and
brought directly therefrom on such certificate or other proof,
or lunacy or insanity, as the laws of such State or power
may require in similar cases."

The question recurring upon the adoption of the amend-
ment,

Mr. Lancaster demanded the yeas and nays.
