AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
After the word "misconduct," in line 32, add the follow-
ing : "And whenever any officer of police, policeman or de-
tective, shall be appointed, be shall receive a commission,
which shall date from the time of his appointment, and shall
hold good for four years, unless sooner annulled by his dis-
missal from the force ; Provided, however, That if any officer
of police, policeman or detective, shall be incapacitated from
performing duty by reason of sickness or disability incurred
in the line of his duty for six consecutive weeks, he may, at
the expiration of that time, be dismissed from the force ;
Provided further, however, That the said Board shall have
the power to dismiss said officer of police, policeman or de-
tective, before that time, if in their judgment they may deem
proper."
After "Maryland," in line 54, the end of section, add,
"and it shall be part of the duty of the Captains, Lieuten-
ants and Sergeants, whenever a policeman, officer of police
or detective is absent from duty, to report such absence to the
Board, and the cause of the same, and if said report shows
that said absence is on account of sickness, such report shall
be prima facie evidence of such sickness ; and if any officer
of police, policeman or detective, shall absent himself from
duty under plea of sickness when he is not sick, such plea or
absence shall be official misconduct, for which said officer
shall be discharged by the said Board of Police Commission-
ers, if they deem proper so to do."
In line 22, section 810, after the word "city," insert "and
a Clerk to the said Marshal."
In line 42, section 810, strike out ''twenty" and insert
"twenty-five."
In line 48, section 810, after the words "per annum," in-
sert "and the Clerk to the Marshal shall receive twelve hun-
dred dollars per annum."
Line 42, section 810, after the word "detectives," insert
" and shall designate one of said detectives to be Chief De-
tective, and he shall receive thirty dollars per week, payable
as aforesaid."
Mr. McColgan moved that said bill, with the amendments,
and all other bills in reference to Police, be referred to the
Baltimore City delegation.
The question recurring upon sustaining the motion,
Mr. Gill demanded the yeas and nays on said motion.
