The bill entitled an Act to amend an Act passed at the
session of the General Assembly of Maryland, held in the
year 1868, entitled an Act to incorporate the Baltimore and
Swann Lake Railway Company,

Was read a second time and ordered to be engrossed for a
third reading.

The bill entitled an Act to allow mileage to witnesses ap-
pearing before the Circuit Court for Frederick county,

Being upon a third reading,

Mr. Lamar, (by unanimous consent,) submitted the fol-
lowing amendment:

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Amend by substituting for section 1, the following :

"That each witness residing in Frederick county, and more
than five miles from the place of holding the Circuit Court of
said county, who shall have been summoned, and shall have
appeared before the said Court, shall receive mileage at the
rate of five cents for each and every mile exceeding the first
five miles that the residence of such witness is distant, by
the most direct road from the place of holding the said Court;
but no witness shall be allowed mileage in returning to his
or her residence, during the time said witness shall be re-
quired to attend the said Court.

The proposed amendment was adopted, and the bill, as
amended, was then read a third time and passed by yeas and
nays, as follows:
