It appearing by the votes of the General Assembly just
cast,

That by the Senate there were 23 votes cast

And by the House of Delegates 70 votes cast,

That the whole number of votes was 93, of which number
the Hon. James B. Groome, received 75 votes and the Hon.
John E. Smith, 18 votes.

The Speaker of the House of Delegates, as Chairman of
the Joint Convention, announced that the Hon. James B.
Groome, had received a majority of all the votes cast and
declared him duly elected to fill the unexpired term of the
Hon. William Pinkney Whyte as Governor of Maryland,
from and after the 4th of March next.
