A bill entitled an Act to repeal Article 4, of the Code of
Public General Laws, entitled " Aliens," and to re-enact the
same so as to read as follows.

Which was read a first time.

Mr. Seth, Chairman of the Select Committee on Temper-
ance, reported without amendment,

The bill entitled an Act to amend Article 19, of the Code
of Public Local Laws for Somerset county, sub-title "Re-
tailers," by adding after the 138th thereof, the following
sections, relating to the sale of liquors in Fairmount Dis-
trict, in said county, to be numbered section 138 a, 138 6,
138 c, 138 d, 138 e, 138f, 138 g, 138 h and 138 i, which had
recommitted to said Committee.

Which, was considered.

Also, without amendment,

The bill entitled an Act to repeal the Act passed on the
21st day of January, 1820, chapter 70, and the Act passed
on the 10th of February, 1821, chapter 128, and the Act
passed at the January session, 1870, chapter 464, relating to
Kent Narrows.

Which was considered.

Mr. Hodson, Chairman, on the part of the House, of the
Joint Committee to visit the Maryland State Normal School,
submitted the following

REPORT.
Mr, Speaker, and Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:

The Joint Committee appointed by your Honorable Body
to visit the Maryland State Normal School, beg leave to re-
part:

That they performed the duty assigned them on the 19th
instant, having spent almost the entire day in that service.

We found one hundred and fifty students on role, of whom
one hundred and forty-five were present, five being absent on
account of sickness. All the counties of the State were rep-
resented, except Caroline and Charles.

A very large proportion of the students were young women,
tkere being only nine male students in the Institution. All
of them, with but two exceptionsj are preparing to become
teachers, and having signed an agreement to that effect, re-
ceive tuition and books free of cost.

Tour Committee learn that the engagement to teach, into
which the free students of this school enter, is almost uni-
