BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

February 4th, 1874.
Gentlemen of the Senate :

We propose, with the concurrence of your Honorable Body,
to go into a Joint Convention immediately, for the election
of Governor of this State, to fill the vacancy occasioned by
the resignation of the Hon. Wm. Pinkney Whyte, Governor
of the State, now on file in the office of the Secretary of State,
and to take effect on the 4th of March next.

Chief Clerk.

Which was read, assented to, and sent to the Senate.

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following mes-
sage :

BY THE SENATE,

February 4th, 1874.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:

We have received your message proposing to go into Joint
Convention to elect a Governor, and respectfully concur
therein.

AUGUSTUS GASSAWAY,

Secretary.

Which was read.

At 1 1/2 o'clock, P. M., the Senators of Maryland, accompanied
by their Secretary, appeared in the House of Delegates.

Whereupon,

The Speaker of the House of Delegates, as Chairman of
the Joint Convention, announced, that in conformity with
the provisions of the Constitution, Article 2, sections 4 and
6, and by agreement between the two Houses, the Joint
Convention would now proceed to elect, by a viva voce vote
of each member of the General Aesembly present, a person
to the office of Governor, to fill the unexpired term of the
Hon. Wm. Pinkney Whyte.

The Secretary of the Senate then proceeded to call the roll
of Senators.

Whereupon,

Hon. J. Lee Carroll, Prest., voted for Hon. James B. Groome.
