The Speaker laid before the House the Report of the Clerk
to the County Commissioners for Howard county, with bill
of H. C. Wootton, Esq., State's Attorney for said county,
from May 1872 to May 1873, in response to an order of the
House.

SIR:—You are hereby respectfully 'requested to extend an
invitation to the House of Delegates of the State of Maryland,
to participate in the meeting in behalf of the Centennial Cel-
ebration of American Independence, to be held at the Concor-
dia Opera House, in this city, as per enclosed notice.

It is expected that the President of the United States, the
Heads of Departments, United States Senators, and Members
of House of Eepresentatives, Judges of the Supreme Court,
and other distinguished gentlemen will be present.

Addresses will be delivered by leading members of the
Centennial Commission from Philadelphia, and also by Sen-
ators and Members of Congress.

As Maryland is one of the original thirteen States, she is
expected to take a prominent part, and we sincerely trust
your Honorable Body will find it convenient to be present.
