LAWS OF MARYLAND

CHAP. 122.

South Carolina, in consequence of the probable delay in
that state of distributing the estate of her deceased hus-
band — Therefore,

Authority to intro-
duce slaves

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sally M. Martin, of the state of South
Carolina, be and she is hereby authorised to introduce and
bring into this state, from the state of South Carolina, sub-
ject to the tax imposed by an act passed at this session, en-
titled, a further supplement to an act relating to iree ne-
groes and slaves, the following negro slavey. Sam aged
about fifty years, Becky aged about fifty years, Fanny aged
about sixty years, Tony aged about fifty years, George and
his wife Judy, aged about twenty years, and their infant
child Jane, George aged about thirteen years, Lucretia
aged about thirteen years; any law to the contrary notwith-
standing; Provided, that the said Sally M. Martin shall have
a list of the negroes so introduced, specifying their ages

ty court H ithin sixty days after the said negroes shall be
brought to the state of Maryland.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That nothing in this
act shall be construed to authorise the said Sally M. Mar-
tin, to self, manumit or dispose of either or any of the said
negro slaves, or the increase of either or any of the said
negro slaves except as is now provided for by law.
