SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-

land, That the name of the "Supreme Council of United Crafts-

ated under the General Laws of this State, be and the same is

hereby changed to that of the "Supreme Council of United
|
 
|
Craftsmen" by dropping the words "of Dorchester County"
|
 
|
from the original corporate name; by such last mentioned
|
 
|
name said corporation shall be known and have perpetual
|
 
|
succession, and be capable in law to acquire and hold, and in
|
 
|
anywise dispose of property, and to sue and be sued, plead
|
 
|
and be impleaded in any court whatever, and to have and use
|
 
|
a common seal, and alter the same at its pleasure, and shall
|
 
|
generally do, execute and enforce all and singular such acts,
|
 
|
contracts, matters and things as may be necessary or proper
|
 
|
to earn- into effect the provisions of this Act, or to protect
|
 
|
the interests and promote the objects and designs of this cor-
|
 
|
poration.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the powers, rights, privi-
|
 
|
leges and franchises possessed by it under its certificate of in-
|

eral Laws of Maryland, are hereby ratified and confirmed, ex-
|
 
|
cept wherein their provisions are in conflict with the provisions
|
 
|
of this Act, in which case the powers, rights, privileges, fran-
|
 
|
chises and limitations contained in this Act shall, for the pur-
|
 
|
poses of this corporation supersede such conflicting provisions
|
 
|
of the Code and of said charter. And in addition to the powers,
|
 
|
rights, privileges and franchises possessed by it under its cer-
|
 
|
tificate of incorporation, and under said Article 23 of the Code,
|
 
|
said corporation shall have and possess the rights, privileges
|
 
|
and franchises particularly mentioned in this Act ; and the
|
 
|
said certificate of incorporation shall be altered and amended
|
 
|
so as to conform to the provisions of this Act.

|
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this corporation is hereby
|
 
|
declared to be what is known as a fraternal beneficial order or
|

association, and as such shall be formed, organized and car-

ried on for the sole benefit of its members and their benefici-

aries, and not for profit. It shall be a lodge system, with rit-
|
 
|
ualistic form of work and representative form of government,
|
 
|
and in order to fully and effectually carry out the purposes
|
 
|
and protect the interests for which it is incorporated it shall
|
 
|
have the power to ordain, establish and put in execution a con-
|
 
|
stitution and such laws, rules and regulations, not in conflict
|
 
|
with its charter and the laws of this State, as shall seem ne-
|
 
|
cessary and proper for its organization, maintenance and gov-
