CHAPTER 107.
|
 
|
AN ACT to add additional sections to Article 18 of the Code
|
 
|
of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Queen Anne's
|
 
|
County," to be known as Section 208A, under a new sub-
|
 
|
title of "Fraud on Livery Stable Keepers," providing for
|
 
|
the punishment of persons hiring horses or vehicles from
|
 
|
livery stable keepers in Queen Anne's County to go a
|
 
|
certain distance and using said horses or vehicles for a
|
 
|
greater distance.

|
SECTION I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
|

2o8A. If any person shall hire of any livery stable keeper

in Queen Anne's County any horse, mare, gelding or vehicle

any certain distance, and shall secretly use said horse, mare,
|
 
|
gelding or vehicle for a greater distance, or in going to some

other place with the intent to evade payment for such increased
|

use. and shall fail or refuse to immediately pay the said livery
|
 
|
stable keeper a reasonable compensation for the additional
|
 
|
use of said horse, mare, gelding or vehicle, which additional
|
 
|
compensation shall be rated in proportion to the increased
|
 
|
distance and use ; such person shall, on conviction before any
|
 
|
justice of the peace of Queen Anne's County, forfeit and pay
|
 
|
a fine of not less than five dollars nor more than one hundred
|

shall be committed by such justice of the peace to the jail

of Queen Anne's County for a period not exceeding thirty
|
 
|
days; and in case the judgment of the justice of the peace

is against the accused, he shall have the right of appeal to
|
 
|
the Circuit Court for Queen Anne's County upon entering
|
 
|
into recognizance with security to be approved by the justice
|
 
|
of the peace, and in every such case the appeal shall be taken
|
 
|
within thirty clays after the date of his conviction.
|
 
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
|
 
|
from the date of its passage.
