SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
|
 
|
|
land, That the following additional section be and the same
|

"Fraud on Livery Stable Keepers," to come in after Section

124A. If any person shall hire from any livery stable keeper
|
 
|
|
in Cecil County any horse, mare, gelding or vehicle of any de-
|

scription whatsoever to go any certain place or any certain
|
ing horses
|
|
distance, and shall- secretly use said horse, mare, gelding or ve-
|
greater dis-
tance than
|
|
hicle for a greater distance, or in going to some other place
|
bargained for.
|
|
with the intent to evade payment of such increased use, and
|
 
|
|
shall fail or refuse to immediately pay the said livery stable
|
 
|
|
keeper a reasonable compensation for the additional use of said
|
 
|
|
horse, mare, gelding or vehicle, which additional compensa-
|
 
|
|
tion shall be rated in proportion to the increased distance and
|
 
|
|
use, such person shall, on conviction before any justice of the
|
 
|
|
peace of Cecil County, forfeit and pay a fine of not less than
|
 
|
|
five dollars nor more than one hundred dollars, and upon
|
 
|
|
failure or refusal to pay said fine and costs shall be com-
|
 
|
|
mitted by such justice of the peace to the jail of Cecil County
|
 
|
|
for a period not exceeding thirty days, and in case the judg-
|
 
|
|
ment of the justice of the peace is against the accused, he shall
|
 
|
|
have the right of appeal to the Circuit Court for Cecil County
upon entering recognizance with security to be approved by
|
Penalty.
|
|
the justice of the peace, and in every such case the appeal shall

be taken within thirty days after the date of conviction.
|
 
|
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
|
 
|
|
from the date of its passage.

AN ACT to add four new sections to Chapter 528 of the Acts
|
 
|
|
of the General Assembly of Maryland passed at its January
|
 
|
|
Session, 1898, to follow immediately after Section 8 and to
|
 
|
|
be known and designated as Sections 8 A, 8B, 8C and 8D,
|
 
|
|
and to repeal Section 12 of said Chapter 528 of the General
|
 
|
|
Assembly of Maryland and to re-enact the same with amend-
|
 
|
|
ments.
|
 
|
|
SECTION I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
