for the arrest of any person, or shall issue any writ or sum-

aforesaid : and whenever any person shall be arrested in the
|
 
|
I2tli Election District upon any criminal charge, or for the
|
 
|
violation of any law of this State, it shall be the duty of the

police officer or constable making such arrest, or other person

in whose custody the said person so arrested may be, to take
|
 
|
the person so arrested before the justice of the peace sitting
|
 
|
at said Canton station house; and if such arrest is made with-
|
 
|
out writ or warrant, or if such writ or warrant is made return-
|
 
|
able before any other justice of the peace, whether of said
|
 
|
12th District or some other district, and the arrest is made
|
 
|
in the I2th Election District as aforesaid, or on a writ or war-
|
 
|
rant issued by a justice appointed for said district, it shall be
|
 
|
the duty of the said police officer, constable or other person
|
 
|
having authority to make such arrest, to take the person so
|
 
|
arrested to the station house at Canton in said 12th Election
|
 
|
District : and the justice of the peace sitting at said station
|
 
|
house shall take jurisdiction in said case.
|
 
|
I42A. When there is an arrest by a police officer or con-

either by a fine or imprisonment, or by a fine alone, during the
hours when the station house justices as aforesaid are not

at said respective station houses, the officer on duty and in

charge of said station house, or such station house justice if
|

he can be found, is herein authorized and empowered to re-
|
 
|
lease for the next hearing before said station house justice
|
 
|
any person so arrested upon a deposit of an amount equal to
|
 
|
the maximum fine and the costs or penalty imposed if found
|
 
|
guilty, as surety for such appearance, and after the hearing
|
 
|
the deposit so made is to be returned to the depositor if the
|
 
|
complaint is dismissed or held for court, upon his appearance
|
 
|
at said hearing, and if said person so arrested fails to appear
|
 
|
at said hearing, or if he appears and is convicted of said charge,
|
 
|
the amount so deposited, or so much thereof as may be ne-
|
 
|
cessary to pay the fine or penalty imposed and costs, shall be
|
 
|
appropriated as designated by law.

142B. It shall be the duty of the police officer appointed by
|
 
|
the Countr Commissioners of Baltimore County when called
