The said certificates were then duly signed and sealed by
the Electors as were also the lists agreeably to the aforegoing
form.  They were then folded and sealed and addressed to the
President of the Senate of the United States Washington with the
following memorandum in each certificate to each of which
each Elector attached his name " Certificate of the Election of
President and Vice President of the United States of America
in and for the State of Maryland.  December the 23 1868.
        Whereupon the President delivered one of the said certificates
to Hon. John Thomson Mason (one of the Electors) to
be by him deposited in the Post office for the City of Annapolis
and one other of the said certificates to Geo. M. Gill Esq. (another
of the Electors) to be by him conveyed and delivered to the
Judge of the District Court of the United States for the
District of Maryland.
                                On motion of Mr. Constable the
following form of Credential was read and adopted.
        And On motion of Mr. Roberts the blank was filled with the
name of the Hon. Henry Clay Dallam of Baltimore
City.

                        State of Maryland to Wit;

        To all persons whom it may concerned.

    Know ye that we the Electors of President and Vice
President of the United States of America, duly elected in
and for the State of Maryland having met at the City of
Annapolis on the day prescribed by the Constitution and
Laws of the United States to perform the trust reposed
in us and having voted and made out in due form certificates
and lists of the votes given, and the persons voted for
and having confidence in Henry Clay Dallam of Baltimore
City have appointed and by these presents do appoint and
authorize him to take charge of one of said certificates and
lists and with all convenient dispatch to convey and deliver
the same to the President of the Senate of the United States
at Washington.
                In Witness whereof we hereunto set our hands and
seals this second day of December Eighteen hundred and
sixty Eight.
