130 Proceedings of Electors of President and Vice President of the United States in and for the State of Maryland 1868. On the first Wednesday in December being the second day of the said Month in the year one thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty Eight, the day appointed by the Constitution and Laws of the United States, in which the Electors of President and Vice President of the United States of America are directed to assemble and perform the trust reposed in them, there appeared in the Senate Chamber, in the City of Annapolis (The place designated by acts of Assembly for the meeting of the said Electors) the following gentlemen who had been proclaimed by the Executive Authority of the State of have been duly elected Electors of President and Vice President of the United States in and for the State of Maryland; Towit; Hon. John Thompson, Mason at Large Hon. Albert Constable 1st District Hon T. Allender 2d District Hon. Henry Clay Dallam 3rd District Hon. Charles B. Roberts 4th District Hon. George Peter 5th District The said Electors severally qualified by taking the Oath prescribed by the Constitution to be taken by all civil officers and by declaring their belief in the Christian Religion. On motion of Mr. Allender Hon. John T. Mason was unanimously chosen President. On motion of Mr. Roberts Augusts Gassaway of Annapolis City was elected Secretary who duly qualified as such. On motion of Mr. Allender Samuel Davis was appointed Messenger and George W. Murdock Door Keeper. Hon. Richard B. Carmichael who had been duly proclaimed by the Executive Authority of the State elected one of the Electors of President and Vice President of the United States in and for the State of Maryland and having appeared in the Senate Chamber. On motion of Mr. Dallam the following order was read and adopted. |
