him to summon twelve good and sufficient freeholders in the county, not interested
in the matter in dispute, who shall, upon their oaths, value and assess
the damage, taking into consideration the advantage or disadvantage that may
arise therefrom; and the damages so assessed shall be paid by the said commissioners
to the party entitled to the same out of the money which shall be paid
into their hands by virtue of this act.

CHAP.
 LXVI.

    VI.  And be it enacted, That the commissioners aforesaid, or a majority of
them, shall have full power and authority to appropriate the funds arising from
the tax imposed by this act, to the several roads under their directions, and to
anticipate the collection of said tax by permitting, if expedient, the supervisor
or supervisors to accept of labour in lieu thereof, by issuing orders to those by
whom such labour may be rendered, to be discounted in taxes with the collector
of his county, in discharge of monies for that particular act.

    VII.  And, for the more effectually making of said roads, Be it enacted,
That the justices of the levy court aforesaid in said county, are hereby empowered
to appoint one or more supervisors, as the case may require, in said
county, to superintend, direct, and contract for the execution of the same, in
the most effectual, œconomical, and expeditious manner; and each and every
of the supervisors so appointed shall give bond with good and sufficient security,
to be approved of by said levy court in the county where said supervisor may be
appointed, in a penalty of at least double the estimated amount of one year's
assessment for the said road or roads in which he shall be appointed, for the
faithful discharge of his trust and appointment, and re-appointments, shall be
made, and bonds as aforesaid, shall be annually entered into and renewed, at the
time the monies shall be levied; and the supervisors shall lay before the levy
court of the county, at the time of levying the levies as aforesaid, in each year,
a just and true account, on oath or affirmation, of all receipts and expenditures
of monies by them received and expended in virtue of their appointment,
and shall pay over the balance, if any, to their successor, if superseded
or displaced; and the supervisors shall respectively be allowed at the rate of
seven shillings and six-pence per day while actually employed in the execution
of this act.

    VIII.  And, in order to facilitate the operations of this law, Be it enacted,
That the commissioners aforesaid, or a majority of them, in said county, may
and they are hereby empowered to contract with any person or persons for the
erecting of any bridge, or making of any causeway, or for clearing and completing
the whole of any part or parts of the said roads in said county under
their superintendence; and in case they should make any such contract, that the
same be reduced to writing, and the party so contracting shall be bound with
good and sufficient security for the faithful execution of the same.

    IX.  And be it enacted, That from and after the passing of this act, that so
much of the law, entitled, An act for streightening and amending the several
public roads in several counties, and for other purposes therein mentioned, passed
seventeen hundred and ninety, as relates as to the public roads in Cæcil county,
shall be and is hereby repealed.

    X.  This act to continue in force until the first day of January, in the year
of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety-six.

An ACT for regulating the mode of staying execution, and for
                repealing the acts of assembly therein mentioned.

person or persons within this state, shall issue upon any judgment obtained
in the court of appeals or general court for the western or eastern shore, or upon
