enacted, That the said salaries shall be paid quarterly
out of the supplies raised every year, until the general assembly shall
make other provision for payment; and that the said salaries, for the
ensuing
year, shall be paid out of the arrearages of the taxes due for the

An ACT to ascertain and establish a permanent salary to
the governor. |

BE it enacted,
by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the governor
of this state for the time being, shall be entitled to receive at
the rate of one thousand pounds current money for his salary and
the same shall be paid quarterly out of the annual supplies, until the
general
assembly shall provide particular funds for payment. |

CHAP. XXIX.
An ACT for the more effectual preservation of the breed of
wild deer. |

WHEREAS it appears to this general assembly, that
the breed
of deer hath of late years been very much lessened, and is
likely to be extinct in the several counties of this state; for
the prevention whereof, it is thought proper to pass an act restraining
all
persons whatsoever from shooting or otherwise destroying them for a limited
time: |

II. Be it enacted,
by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall
and may be lawful for any person or persons whatsoever, from and after
the
end of this session of assembly during the term of six years, to kill or
otherwise destroy any deer, under the penalty of ten pounds current money
for every deer so killed or destroyed, to be recovered in the county
court of the county where the said offence shall be committed, by indictment
or information; one half of which said sum of ten pounds shall be
applied to the use of the county, and the other half to be received by
the person who shall make information thereof. |

III. And be
it enacted, That after the expiration of the aforesaid six
years, no person or persons whatsoever shall shoot, kill, or otherwise
destroy
any deer, except in the months of October and November yearly, under
the penalty aforesaid. |

IV. And be it
enacted, That any person or persons whatsoever, in whose
hands or custody any deer's flesh, except dried venison hams, shall be
found,
that shall appear to have been killed on or before the end of the said
six
years, shall be deemed, taken and adjudged, the killer or destroyer of
such
deer, and liable to the penalty aforesaid, unless such person or persons
shall
make it appear who it was that really killed the same, or from whom such
person thereof possessed received the same, or that the same was not killed
contrary to the prohibitions of this act. |

V. And be it
enacted, That if any master, mistress or overseer, shall
willingly suffer any servant or servants, slave or slaves, under their
care or
management, to hunt, kill or destroy, any deer, contrary to this act, the
said master, mistress or overseer, so offending, shall forfeit and
pay the sum
of ten pounds, to be recovered and applied as before directed; and if any
servant or servants, slave or slaves, do or shall hunt, kill or destroy,
any deer,
contrary to this act, and without the privity or knowledge of their master, |
