1779.                                 LAWS of MARYLAND.

                                            CHAP. XXV.
                    An ACT for the regulation of officers fees.

Preamble.     WHEREAS officers fees can be rated, regulated and established, by
act of assembly only, and such an act is now expedient and necessary;
Officers not to
take greater
fees than limited,
&c.
    II.  Be it enacted, by the general assembly of Maryland, That no officer or officers
hereafter mentioned in this present act, their ministers, servants or deputies, by
reason or colour of his or their office or offices, shall have, receive or take, of any
person or persons, directly or indirectly, any other or greater fees, which shall
arise or become due after the commencement of this act, than are hereafter
limited and allowed to the several officers herein mentioned, under the penalty of
fifty pounds current money for every offence; That is to say,
Fees to the register
in chancery.
                           To the REGISTER in CHANCERY.
 

A subpœna ad respondendum, with
    not more than three names, and
    return
Every name more than three
An attachment of contempt and
    return
A proclamation of rebellion, and
    return
A commission of rebellion and return
An injunction, and return
A writ of sequestration, and return,
    per side, and so pro rato
An audita querela, and return
Filing every bill in chancery
Every court the same shall continue,
    to be charged to the complainant
    only
Filing every answer in chancery
Every oath to the same, if taken
    in court
Recording every return of commission
    and deposition, per side, and
    so pro rato
A writ of ad quod damnum, and return,
    per side, and so pro rato
Every order on motion
A ne exeat, and return
Drawing any matter or thing not
    mentioned, that passeth the seal,
    if it exceeds one side, computing
    seven words to a line and fifteen
    lines to a side, and so pro rato
For recording the same, per side,
    as before
Search, the first year nothing
For all searches above one year, if
    the matter searched be found and
    no copy taken, if copy taken no
    charge for the search
For filing every plea in chancery,
    if not recorded
